Recently, Central Peel’s Link Crew hosted an Amazing Race for Grade 8 students from feeder schools. The objective of this event was to give future students insight on what we have to offer here at CPSS. This is the school’s first year in hosting this event; in fact, its great success acts as an incentive for the school to continue hosting this initiative in future years. An interview was conducted with Laxsana Prithiviraj, a Grade 12 Link Crew leader who led the corn hole activity. Laxsana said “I wish this event was present when I was in Grade 8. It is truly an amazing opportunity for Grade 8’s to witness the phenomenal things that are in store for them at Central Peel.”
Over the course of two days, students from nearby middle schools visited Central Peel. Upon their arrival, they were first directed to the auditorium for an introductory presentation. Then, the Link Crew leaders brought groups of Grade 8’s to stations located aroundschool. This meant students could get a tour of the school while having a bit of fun. The activities ranged from small building contests to racetracks to corn hole.
“There was a great response from the middle school teachers. They were amazed by how accommodating and kind the Link Crew leaders were towards the grade 8’s. They were nothing but impressed,” stated Laxsana with great pride in our school’s efforts. Although there are aspects that could be improved for the next year (e.g, flow of activities and time spent per each activity), it was definitely a great start to showcasing our school’s welcoming environment and this was only possible due to the leadership and initiative taken by our link crew leaders and staff.
