The time has finally come! Many restaurants are dropping their annual Christmas menu, including Tim Hortons. The menu includes the following:
Candy Cane Iced Capp
Candy Cane Hot Chocolate
Candy Cane White Hot Chocolate
Gingerbread Oat Latte
Roasted Hazelnut Cold Brew
Mocha Latte
Gingerbread Chocolate Dream Donut
Chocolate Fudge Pretzel Dream Donut
Chocolate Hazelnut Muffin
Filled Sugar Cookie
I set out to see if these items are worth the try. With the help of my sister, I tried the Candy Cane Hot Chocolate (both white chocolate and regular) and the Gingerbread Chocolate Dream Donut.
Lets start with the Regular Candy Cane Hot Chocolate. This was my favourite of the items that I tried. The balance between the peppermint and chocolate was great, neither overwhelmed each other. The drink was incredibly sweet, which some people might not like but I didn’t mind.
On the other hand, the Candy Cane White Hot Chocolate had no balance between the flavours. I, and my taste-testers, agreed that this drink was way too sweet and tasted more like “hot peppermint” than hot chocolate. There was no hint of chocolate flavour, it was just hot, sweet, peppermint milk.
Finally, I tried the Gingerbread Chocolate Dream Donut. The donut itself was a mediocre choclate filled donut. The filling sort-of tasted like chocolate, but the icing had no taste. The donut was topped by a dollop of what I thought was whipped cream (it tasted like a slab of butter) and a gingerbread cookie (which was the only thing gingerbready about this donut), which had gone stale and had a weird aftertaste.Overall, the donut was a big disappointment.
Additionally, one of my taste-testers tried the Candy Cane Iced Capp (I don’t drink coffee). She reported that the combination of peppermint and coffee was a bit strange, but far from bad. However, the weird whipped cream and chunks of candy cane made it worse than a normal Iced Capp.
In conclusion, the Christmas menu at Tim Hortons was a resounding disappointment. The items I tried (or got other people to try) ranged from awful to fine, with none of the delicious standouts I was hoping for.
