Brampton has undergone many changes over the course of its two hundred-year existence, evolving from a small settlement to a city that is adored by many. Now Brampton is changing once again. The City of Brampton is building an Innovation District, in the heart of its downtown area. The goal of the project is to increase the prominence of technology, business, and education in the city. Brampton is investing $20.5 million into the project, with an additional $55.2 million being invested by partners.
Brampton’s Innovation District has already begun making an impact on the local community. The Innovation District has hosted about 3,000 workshops, sessions, and other events. Those events included business consultations, start-up workshops and cybersecurity education campaigns, and were attended by more than 12,000 people. These efforts will foster a unique start-up community, and aid entrepreneurs in their business ventures. Some partners of the Innovation District are the Brampton Entrepreneur Centre, the Ryerson Venture Zone, and a Cyber Security Accelerator led by Rogers Cybersecure Catalyst. These partners serve the role of accelerating business, and educational opportunities. For example, the Brampton Entrepreneur Centre hosts seminars in the field of business and offers business plan reviews and consultations at no cost. The Cyber Security Accelerator will help those looking to advance into the cybersecurity field, by providing interactive cybersecurity training.
Brampton’s Innovation District is a promising new way forward for the city. The Innovation District is not a project that is unique to Brampton, but it will allow the city to foster the young and curious minds of its large and diverse community. I believe that this district can allow Brampton to be recognized as an important city in the field of cybersecurity and innovation. There are no limits to the capabilities of the Innovation District, and the Flower City is on the course of becoming a national centre of cyber security. Brampton has the possibility to become one of the major cities in Canada for technology, business and education, and it can be regarded as a step in the right direction.
